BSP Pipe Nipples connect a valve, elbow or other female fitting to the next threaded component. The body is a straight piece of steel with a bore through it. There are male threads at both ends, and the British thread profile has a 55° angle.

With a barrel pattern, a section of plain pipe separates the threads. That is where the wrench can grip. A close pattern leaves no plain barrel between the ends. Black and hot dipped galvanized finishes are available. The zinc coating is a barrier over the steel. It also corrodes preferentially, helping protect the underlying metal during exposure.

• Replacement connections where the existing fittings use BSP threads.

The fluid and operating temperature determine whether carbon steel is suitable for a particular line.

FAQ

Q: Are BSP Pipe Nipples interchangeable with NPT?

A: No. The thread angle and dimensions differ. A shared nominal size does not make them interchangeable. Identify the connection on the mating fitting before replacing a part.

Q: What should the female thread be for an R male end?

A: Rp parallel or Rc tapered, to ISO 7-1. A parallel port can therefore be correct. Check the letters in the connection designation as well as its size.

Q: Does a G thread seal in the same way?

A: G identifies parallel threads to ISO 228-1. A suitable sealing face and seal outside the threads provide the pressure seal for this arrangement.
