1. Preparation before installation
‌1) Check the integrity of the parts: Make sure that the components of the coupling, such as the half-coupling, pin (if any), protective cover, etc., are not missing or damaged.
2) Cleaning work: Use a clean cloth or brush to thoroughly remove oil, rust, impurities, etc. on the shaft end, the inner hole of the half-coupling, and the surface of the keyway to ensure the cleanliness of the installation surface and avoid debris affecting the installation accuracy and the normal operation of the coupling.
2. Installation steps and precautions
‌1) Connection between the shaft and the half-coupling:
Install the key correctly in the keyway of the shaft.
Align the keyway of the half-coupling with the key on the shaft, and smoothly insert the half-coupling into the shaft end. You can use a copper rod or other soft tool to gently tap the half-coupling to ensure that it is installed in place, fits tightly with the shaft, and is not loose.
‌2) Installation of the pin (for couplings with pins):
Install the pins in the pin holes of the installed half couplings one by one. Note that the installation direction of the pins should be consistent, and the pins should fall completely into the pin holes without any skew or jamming.
It is strictly forbidden to use metal tools to forcibly pry or knock the pins to avoid damaging their structure and performance.
‌3) Installation of the other half coupling:
Align the pin hole of the other half coupling with the installed pin, and slowly push it in to make it fit with the pin.
During the pushing process, ensure the coaxiality of the half coupling and the shaft to avoid damage to the pins or misalignment of the two half couplings caused by forced installation.
‌4) Testing and adjustment:
After installation, the coupling should be slowly rotated and moved in the axial and radial directions to test the coaxiality of the two shafts. If it cannot move smoothly, the coaxiality needs to be readjusted until it is smooth and then the fixing bolts are tightened.
Be careful not to tighten the locking ring of the coupling or the fixing bolts of the drive shaft too early to avoid affecting the adjustment of the coaxiality.
3. Inspection and maintenance after installation
‌1) Check the tightness‌: After the coupling is installed, check the tightness of all bolts to ensure that there is no looseness.
2) Lubrication and maintenance‌: According to the type of coupling and the use environment, regularly add or replace lubricating grease to keep the coupling in good lubrication.
‌3) Regular inspection‌: Regularly check the coupling, including the wear of the pin and whether the connection of the half coupling is loose. If any abnormality is found, it should be handled in time.
In summary, the installation process of the coupling needs to be meticulous and rigorous, and follow the correct installation steps and precautions to ensure the normal operation of the coupling and extend its service life.
